Fireplace Revisited. . .again. . .and again

Like Cher, Prince, and most people who pretend they only have a first name, the fireplace has gone through many stages of change.

It's still changing. Rich wants to take our most recent Menards gift card (thanks again, generous family and friends) to buy "a tool" -- he told me what kind, but I don't speak tool so it didn't register -- to build in the built-in bookshelves that are designed to be on either side of the fireplace, below the windows.
